The Gaia Napa Valley and Gaia Anderson Hotels are the first LEED rated hotels in California. With more than 100 green features, these hotels include solar electric systems, daylight in every space, passive heating and cooling strategies, preservation of existing shade trees to decrease heat islands in the parking lot, high-performance insulation, a lagoon that provides habitat for native aquatic birds, an ozone laundry system, high-efficiency HVAC systems, FSC-certified wood, dual-flush toilets and waterless urinals, and zero-VOC (volatile organic compound) finishes.

In addition to low-flow fixtures, concentrated green cleaning supplies, refillable amenities, and a water-wise landscape, the Gaia Hotels include a Green Laundry System from Water Energy. The Green Laundry System cuts overall energy usage in the laundry by an amazing 75% and reduces net water use in the laundry by nearly 70%. This translates into billions of BTU’s and millions of gallons of water saved each year in the laundry alone. This savings in addition to all the other advances in reducing environmental impact has propelled the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel to LEED Gold Certification and Gaia Anderson Hotel to LEED Silver Certification.

Achievements:

1.

Manage LEED documentation for all water saving strategies.

2.

Help design water saving features that reduce a typical hotel water footprint by over 40% overall and by over 70% in laundry water, heavily attributed to a shift to ozone disinfectant.

3.

Collaborate within a diverse team of designers, engineers, regulators, and community members to enhance future developments desiring the same goals.
